Position Summary:

In collaboration with the Housekeeping Manager, the Housekeeping Supervisor plans, implements, and schedules work necessary to ensure assigned buildings are maintained in clean, sanitary, and in safe condition. In addition, the Housekeeping Supervisor, assists with the cleaning of buildings and the set-up of events.

  • Leading the work of other custodial employees on an assigned task basis and inspecting work when completed.
  • Scheduling weekend shifts and ensuring staff has necessary keys and equipment.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director and Assistant Manager, developing and implementing training programs for new and existing custodial personnel in order to provide for safe and effective use of all appropriate chemicals and equipment.
  • Maintaining supplies and equipment necessary for custodial staff to perform their jobs.
  • Interfacing with the Assistant Director and Assistant Manager daily to pass on information and equipment needed from shift to shift.
  • Meeting with college staff and contributing to an environment that supports, soliciting ideas and gaining feedback on services.
  • Repairing custodial equipment used by staff whenever possible.
  • Maintaining laundry/supply room, laundering material used and ensuring availability of cleaning supplies.
  • Prioritizing work to ensure that all work is completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring that chemicals are mixed and used properly.
  • Assuming the responsibility of absent employees and acting as a back-up to the project staff.
  • Maintaining department truck and golf cart, knowing where they are at all times and scheduling their use.
  • Dusting, mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, striping, and waxing floors, operating equipment such as scrubbers, buffers, vacuum cleaners, and carpet cleaners.
  • Reporting service or facility issues outside of the Housekeeping function to the appropriate parties within Maintenance or Grounds as appropriate.
  • Cleaning glass doors, dusting walls, furniture, and light fixtures, cleaning water fountains, sweeping stairs, emptying waste containers, maintaining restrooms in sanitary condition, cleaning chalkboards and chairs in classrooms.
  • Assisting as needed in relocating furniture and equipment, replacing light bulbs and performing various minor building maintenance tasks.
  • Assisting the transport team with the set-up of all campus events booked through Event Scheduling Department including tables, chairs, easels, lecterns, etc. for events including but not limited to commencements, banquets, student events, summer programs, etc.
  • Performing other related job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Requires a minimum of six months to one year of job‑related experience.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report.
  • Strong leadership skills and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to direct the work of others using tact and good judgment and to communicate effectively with staff, faculty and students.
  • Must be able to work as a team and adapt to changing situations and schedules during the course of a day while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Ability to handle conflict in a productive manner and to give employees timely, performance-based feedback as appropriate.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions.
  • Knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment typically used in janitorial work.
  • Ability to perform a variety of moderately heavy custodial tasks in the care of buildings and equipment.

Work Environment:

  •  Requires physical exertion including bending, lifting, and standing for long periods of time.
  • Overtime may be required as needed as well as working weekends; must be flexible with availability.
  • As a condition of employment in this position, the incumbent will be subject to call in outside of regular hours in order to respond to emergencies, including the preparation and maintenance of College facilities, grounds, systems and services during inclement weather crises.

The hourly pay rate is $15.00.
