Position Summary:

The responsibilities of the Student & Family Care GA are centered on the College mission of educating students for global citizenship and responsible leadership, empowering graduates to pursue meaningful lives and productive careers. This is done by supporting the academic and social development of students, specifically students of concern. The Student & Family Care GA reports to the Assistant Director of Student & Family Care and provides oversight of crisis management cases and other student-related issues. As a non-clinical case manager for undergraduate students, the person in this position will have primary responsibility for providing support to students facing a range of challenges including but not limited to issues related to mental health, substance abuse, academic concerns and other behaviors in the campus community. The Student & Family Care GA will help plan and provide a variety of interventions, referrals and follow up services, maintain factual case records and provide outreach and education about the care program to the campus community.

The Student & Family Care GA will serve the campus community by impacting student support and care on the Rollins Campus. This position will assist in the following capacities, being directly responsible for (5) main initiatives:

1. STUDENT OUTREACH AND SUPPORT: Provide non-clinical case management for students referred to the Dean of Students: Student & Family Care department by:

  1. Meeting with students, staff members and other individuals involved in student emotional/ mental/ physical health needs.
  2. Collaborating with appropriate staff to support students of concern.
  3. Supporting faculty and staff seeking guidance around a range of student-related issues.
  4. Maintaining factual case documentation.
  5. Providing follow up outreach services.

2. DIVISION AND DEPARTMENTAL MEETINGS: Attend weekly Care Team meetings, bi-weekly one-on-one supervisor meetings and monthly division and departmental meetings

3. DIVERSITY & INCLUSION: Actively support the College’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in order to achieve and sustain excellence and embodying this commitment both as a personal value and a professional priority.

4. CAMPUS INITIATIVES: Represent the Office of Student & Family Care at functions such as departmental programming, open houses, and student activity fairs.

5.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Anticipated Employment Dates:  July 10, 2017-- May 25, 2018

Scheduled Hours: Up to 20 hours/week; office hours are Monday-Friday 8:30AM-5:00PM. p.m. Hours are flexible based on the student's class schedule and student & family needs. 

Pay Rate:

$12.00/Hour

Desired Qualifications/Special Skills:

The incumbent must be actively enrolled in a graduate degree seeking program in order to qualify for this position and must remain actively enrolled in a graduate degree seeking program for the duration of their employment in this position. 

  • The position requires good interpersonal communication and challenge-resolution skills, with an understanding of the unique challenges faced by student learners.
  • Strong management skills with the demonstrated ability to coordinate, manage, implement, and evaluate multiple cases over varied timelines and an ability to work independently once instructed is necessary.
  • Successful candidates should have knowledge of time management skills, effective organizational skills, a working knowledge of campus resources, and a willingness to learn new skills throughout the year.
  • This position must be able to handle difficult situations and confidential information with sensitivity and professionalism and requires a flexible time schedule, as office hours are Monday-Friday 8:30AM-5:00PM.
  • It also requires enthusiasm and creativity in devising new ways to promote the department, receive student referrals, and work with each student’s individual needs

Anticipated Learning Outcomes: 

The goal of this assistantship is to provide an experiential learning opportunity that is aligned with the educational program of study.

The Student & Family Care GA will have opportunities that will aid in professional and personal development including, but not limited to:

  • Collaboration with the Wellness Center, Title IX Coordinator, Care alignment, Community alignment, and Career alignment.
  • Participation in staff development opportunities.
  • Partaking in the Graduate Assistant curriculum. A strong emphasis will be placed in holistic development and personal well-being.
