Position Summary:

Reporting to the Health Promotions Coordinator, the Communications Specialist will have the responsibility for updating all media outlets, including Facebook, Instagram, and the Wellness Center website, in addition to creating promotional items, campaign materials & communication plans.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a communication plan for Web, social media, digital signage, and print
    • Set measurable goals for effective communication based on institutional strategic plan
    • Maintain an editorial calendar for all communication channels
    • Use Facebook and Instagram analytics and other metrics to evaluate effectiveness of communication plan
    • Prepare written, evidence-based reports on effectiveness of communication plan
  • Create health promotion materials, such as flyers, fact sheets, and videos, for Web, social media, digital signage, and print
    • Use Adobe InDesign to create flyers, digital signage, and other materials
    • Use Adobe Illustrator to create and modify vector graphics for Web and print applications
    • Perform basic photo retouching (e.g., white balance, exposure, cropping)
    • Perform basic video editing (e.g., compiling multi-shot videos, managing aspect ratios, adding title cards and captions)
    • Apply institutional brand policies to the use of assets such as logos
  • Represent the department and institution in an inclusive way
    • Communicate evidence-based content and information from reliable sources with appropriate citations/attribution
    • Proactively seek up-to-date information regarding services and activities of the department and institution
    • Appropriately maintain student privacy by applying HIPAA, FERPA, and institutional policies to all communications
    • Communicate in a culturally relevant and appropriate manner with people of diverse ages, gender identities, sexual orientations, racial/cultural identities, socioeconomic statuses, health statuses, and disability statuses
  • Manage marketing assets (e.g., digital files, licensed content)
    • Apply knowledge of copyright law and applicable policies to appropriately use original and licensed content
    • Proactively seek consultation for questions regarding licensing and copyright
  • Data entry and analysis
    • Create surveys that measure the needs of the faculty, staff and student populations
    • Complete Institutional Review Board (IRB) forms as needed for surveys
    • Dispersing surveys to applicable populations as needed
    • Generate data reports that illustrate and analyze the results of surveys; present data reports as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, & Publisher)
  • Proficient in Social Media outlets, including Instagram and Facebook
  • Experience working with diverse populations of students
  • Have Portfolio ready to present at interview
  • Background in Graphic Design
  • Experience planning, implementing, and/or evaluating strategic communications for a company or nonprofit using one or more of the following channels: Instagram, Facebook, print, Web, digital signage
  • Experience implementing strategic health communication campaigns
  • Experience training or teaching others in health communication or a related discipline
  • Experience managing or supervising paid or unpaid communications personnel
  • Mass communication experience in a healthcare setting

This is a part-time position scheduled to work less than 1,000 hours throughout the year, but on average would work between 20-30 hours per week. There are no benefits associated with this position. The hourly pay rate is $14.00.
