Temporary, 4-6 Week Assignment

Position Summary:

The Custodian will operate as part of a team whose primary responsibility will be to perform custodial services for academic, administration, and residential buildings. Anticipated appointment term will be 4-6 weeks. This is a part-time (less than 1,000 hours), temporary position without benefits.
  • Dusting, mopping, sweeping, and vacuuming.
  • Cleaning glass doors, windows, and mirrors.
  • Dusting walls, furniture, and light fixtures.
  • Cleaning water fountains and sweeping stairs.
  • Emptying waste containers and separating recyclable items.
  • Maintaining restrooms in sanitary condition.
  • Cleaning chalk and white boards.
  • Assisting in relocating furniture, books, and equipment.
  • Replacing light bulbs and performing various minor building maintenance tasks.
  • Setting up special events; i.e., setting up and cleaning tables, trash containers setting up, rearranging furniture, etc.
  • Turning off lights and securing buildings.
  • Performing related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Elementary school education is required in order to read, write and follow basic instructions
  • Requires six months to one year of job related experience
  • Knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment typically used in janitorial work and set-ups
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and diagrams for set-up of events
  • Ability to perform a variety of moderately heavy tasks in the care of buildings and equipment

Work Environment

  • Requires physical exertion including bending, heavy lifting, and standing for long periods of time.

  • Monday-Friday: 6:00am-2:00pm.

The pay rate is $10.00 an hour. There are no benefits associated with this position.
