Position Summary:

The Roofer Helper is responsible for assisting Lead Roofer during the application or repair of roofing materials. Unloads materials, cleans off roof, applies roofing material, and cleans site after job is complete.

  • Unloading materials from truck and unrolling roofing material.
  • Ensuring there is enough material for entire roof.
  • Lifting roofing materials onto roof using pulleys or ladder.
  • Clearing debris from roof.
  • Scraping or pulling off old roofing material.
  • Properly equipping all roofers with safety equipment, scaffolding, and hoists.
  • Nailing roofing paper and composition shingles into roof.
  • Applying layer of tar on roof.
  • Applying gravel, shingles, or asphalt over tar layer.
  • Covering roof with roofing felt, asphalt strips, or other materials.
  • Applying tile, slate, or composition materials to roof.
  • Locating and repairing cracked tiles.
  • Filling in missing tiles.
  • Clearing out gutters and drains.
  • Affixing metal sheets to roof boards or frameworks.
  • Locating and fixing leaks.
  • Repairing damage caused from storms and high winds.
  • Nailing tiles to roof boards and covering with roofing cement.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma required.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report.
  • More than one year of experience in the commercial roofing industry.
  • Familiarity with typical roofing materials and techniques to include flashing, tar, caulking products, sub-roofing, tile, membranes and built-up roofing systems.
  • Be aware of and implement roofing industry safety practices to include use of fall protection at all times.
  • Must be comfortable working on the roof of multistory buildings.
  • Ability to follow and apply direction from the lead roofer.
  • Must be able to perform other duties as assigned in the maintenance shop.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb ladders.
  • Must be able to lift 80 lbs.
  • Must be able to use roofing tools and repair materials.
  • Must be able to work outside on roofs for extended periods and in all weather conditions.
