Position Summary:

Rollins Student Media is seeking a Graduate Assistant will support Student Media through revenue generating projects, opportunities to professionalize student employees, and program assessment. Through direct oversight of student groups and participation in planning processes, the Student Media Graduate Assistant will work with the Director of Student Media to facilitate and advise four student-led media organizations.

Rollins Student Media comprises the Sandspur student newspaper, WPRK 91.5 FM, Brushing Art and Literary Journal, and the Independent magazine. These organizations serve the campus and community while providing a meaningful learning experience to student employees. The department is informed by Rollins’s mission of educating students for global citizenship and responsible leadership, empowering graduates to pursue meaningful lives and productive careers.

Primary objectives are as follows:

  1. Revenue-Generating Projects: These include advertising sales, video and photography services for campus clients, and donation solicitation. Achieving success will mean sustaining revenue growth and integrating the staffs of each student media organization into the fundraising process.

    The GA will support these activities by:
    - Leading a sales team alongside a student Business Manager  
    - Producing price quotes and invoices
    - Tracking student hours spent on projects
    - Seeing through the delivery of media and proof of ad placement
    - Planning and assisting in opportunities to encourage donations to Student Media

  2. Student-Professionalizing Opportunities: In collaboration with the Rollins’s Center for Career and Life Planning and the Office of Alumni Relations, the GA will also plan opportunities to prepare students for career-readiness. These may include interactive sessions on job searches and guest speakers who share their journeys from Student Media to careers.

  3. Program Assessment: Working alongside the Director, the GA will gather data about the student experience and analyze its meaning toward program effectiveness.

Anticipated Employment Dates: June 11, 2018 - May 31, 2019.

Anticipated Learning Outcomes: The goal of this assistantship is to provide an experiential learning opportunity that is aligned with the educational program of study.


  1. Bi-weekly pay rate of $12.50/hr. over the academic semester
  2. $500 meal plan
  3. $500 for conference travel
  4. Free campus staff parking privileges

Candidates interested in this role must be actively enrolled in a graduate degree-seeking program in order to qualify for this position, and must remain actively enrolled in a graduate degree-seeking program for the duration of their employment in this position. **Candidates attending institutions other than Rollins may apply.**
