Position Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Finance this position is responsible for supervising two Senior Accountants, Accounting and Budget Manager and Property/Project Accountant. The Director of Accounting is responsible for independent professional accounting duties including:

  • Coordinate external audit activities.
  • Compilation of quarterly reports and annual financial statements.
  • Review and manage preparation of the NCAA / EADA – Gender Equity in Athletics reports.
  • Manage administration Federal, State and private grants with, budgeting, reporting and compliance; applying for grant reimbursement as required.
  • Review and manage preparation of the annual Fiscal Operations Report and Application to Participate (FISAP) for student financial aid.
  • Manage administration of the Perkins loan fund to include preparation of monthly journal entries to record servicing company collections activity, reconciliation of servicing company records to Banner and reimbursement to Rollins for loans made.
  • Manage accounting activities of Commercial Properties, Residential Properties, Investment Portfolio, and Endowment.
  • Manage forecasting of salary and fringe budgets of the College.
  • Preparation of other reports for government agencies or external parties as required.
  • Providing accounting support to the College’s business units and departments including research of accounting entries, consultation and assistance, generation of reports and instruction on procedures for interaction with the Finance Office.
  • General ledger accounting, including journal entry preparation, journal entry review/approval, researching transactions and reconciliation of accounts.
  • Preparation of audit work-papers, including schedules related to Federal and State awards for A-133 compliance testing.
  • Maintenance of the charts of funds, organizations, accounts and programs in Banner.
  • Performance of internal audit procedures; review of transaction samples for compliance with procedures, review and investigation of third party reports for propriety; identification of process areas with potential for improvement.
  • Financial forecasting and planning.
  • Functioning as back up for duties performed by the Property Accountant.
  • Cross training with other accounting functions as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of accounting experience with an emphasis in nonprofit environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices with strong analytical skills.
  • Experience or training in nonprofit accounting systems; knowledge of College environment, departments, procedures and policies.
  • Strong capabilities with software programs including database, spreadsheet, word processing, e-mail and Internet applications; experience with Microsoft Office Suite and client/server systems is preferred.
  • Ability to analyze information and make judgment decisions and to understand and interpret complex oral and written instructions.
  • Strong communication, customer service and consulting skills.
  • Public speaking ability is a plus.
  • Ability to focus and to work independently.
