Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Web Strategy, the incumbent will be responsible for the planning, development and implementation of web applications and enterprise system capabilities on the College’s internet sites along with back-end system configuration/integration and server implementation/development to support campus-wide initiatives and goals. This role is responsible for managing the interchange of data between the server and the users. The primary focus will be development of all server-side logic, database maintenance, and ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the front-end. It will require the incumbent to integrate the front-end elements built by coworkers into the applications. A basic understanding of front-end technologies is therefore necessary as well. The incumbent will work closely with members of the Marketing & Communications team, Admissions teams, in-house IT technical staff, and external vendors as needed.

Some highlights and responsibilities associated with this position include:

  • Integration of user-facing elements developed by a front-end developer with server side logic
  • Building reusable code and libraries for future use and develop coding standards and conventions
  • Optimization of applications for maximum speed and scalability
  • Documentation and management of a code repository
  • Design and implementation of databases
  • Plan and execute the development of projects and work orders (setting deadlines, coordinating tasks, writing code)
  • Integration development using APIs from external vendors
  • Provide training and documentation for custom applications
  • Design and build relational database applications, perform data acquisition & migration

Education and Experience Required:


  • Bachelor’s degree and 4-8 years related experience
  • Experience in the web application development life cycle from start to finish: gathering business requirements, developing the application, and coordinating testing and client approvals
  • Demonstrated experience with cross-browser and cross-platform issues, and working with a content management system
  • Experience creating functional specifications and estimations for projects
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic understanding of front-end technologies and platforms, such as JavaScript, HTML, CSS
  • Understanding accessibility and security compliance
  • Proficient knowledge of a back-end programming language. Should have the knowledge of one or more of the following: PHP (preferred), Python, Ruby, React, JavaScript etc.
  • Proficient knowledge of working with email marketing systems such as Mailchimp for list management
  • Experience with PHP, middleware architecture, and Linux web servers
    Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
  • User authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers, and environments
  • Understanding of transactional applications
  • Management of hosting environment including database administration
  • Data migration, transformation, and scripting
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; exceptionally attentive to detail
  • Ability to design and build relational database applications, perform data acquisition & migration

  • A team player, able to work in a collaborative environment; must be able to deal with stressful situations and critical issues with clear and decisive appropriate actions

  • Familiarity with Hubspot, Slate and/or Banner is a plus
