Position Summary:

The Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub Staff Director develops strategies that advance social innovation education across Rollins, in our local and global community, and throughout higher education. The Staff Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations that enable a thriving ecosystem to achieve the mission of creating global citizens and responsible leaders.

Primary responsibilities include: 

  • Advance social innovation, social entrepreneurship, sustainability and changemaking as a part of the institution’s commitment to global citizenship and responsible leadership including:
    • Manage a coordinating structure for social innovation activities on campus to ensure that all related activities are aligned, connected, and embedded throughout the entire institution with shared learning outcomes and goals
    • Manage the Hub; a physical space within Kathleen W. Rollins Hall (beginning Spring 2020) that serves as a learning incubator for the campus community to engage in global problem solving, collaborative learning, community
    • organizing, and human-centered design thinking
    • Create, manage, deploy Hub programs for students exploring social innovation outside the classroom (e.g., UN Sustainability Goals, Millennium Impact Fellows, Ideas for Good Pitch Competition, Global Social Innovation Challenge, Sullivan Ignite Retreats, Impact Incubator, Innovation Station, Innovators on Campus Series, Community Impact Lab and InnovaTARS Student Ambassadors)
    • Support academic offerings by partnering closely with faculty on majors and minors (e.g., social entrepreneurship, social innovation, political science, sociology, education) that focus on global problem solving
    • Develop and deploy faculty training and support research focused on social innovation and changemaking
    • Partner closely with sustainability efforts across campus (e.g., Community Garden, Bike Share Program and Recycling efforts) and provide mentorship for student organizers
  • Develop and manage campus-community partnerships and relationships in the impact sector, for profit and nonprofit space (e.g., Rally Social Impact Accelerator, IDEAS for US, Florida Hospital Innovation Lab, Starter Studio)
  • Serve as the AshokaU Changeleader designee for Rollins by managing the relationship between Ashoka and the institution (e.g., reporting, data collection, compliance).
  • Elevate campus expertise around changemaking and social impact in the external community
  • Serve as a spokesperson for changemaking and social impact on campus and in the external community
  • Collaborate with staff and faculty across campus to engage in multiple pathways of changemaking including community and civic education, service learning, leadership development, career and life planning and student care
  • Manage staff and resources associated with the coordinating structure, including partnership with faculty director for the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub, management of a graduate assistant, management of an administrative assistant and student employees

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • MBA or Master’s degree in student personnel, educational leadership, higher education, or a related field is preferred
  • Knowledge, skills and values related to social innovation, social entrepreneurship, social enterprise, impact giving, and community engagement through both higher education and the impact sector (nonprofit and/or for-profit)
  • Direct experience and employment within social enterprise
    Possess at least 4 years of related experiences in program management and development
  • Proven success working with faculty and college students
  • Experience working with, and deep appreciation for, working alongside diverse populations
  • Ability to support and lead an institutional vision to engage all students in changemaking education
  • Highly organized, detailed and able to flourish in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and needs
  • Demonstrated experience with supervision, budget and resource management
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and passion for, social innovation, problem solving, social justice and social change theory and practice
  • Demonstrated ability to implement programmatic initiatives from ideation to execution
  • Ability to lead through ambiguity and scale efforts
  • Strong oral and written communication skills demonstrated through facilitation, proposals writing, grants, promotional materials and correspondence
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, Central Florida’s social impact ecosystem
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel outside Central Florida as needed
