Position Summary:

The Associate Dean of Academics at Rollins College invites interested individuals to apply as an adjunct to teach a six-credit lab science course in general education (specialty open) during the 2020 spring semester.

Course goals include students' ability to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of scientific principles
  • Evaluate hypotheses using empirical evidence
  • Find, analyze, and evaluate scientific material, and
  • Formulate or explore a hypothesis, identify the dependent and independent variables, describe the controls used, find relationships between variables, and formulate an explanation of the results obtained from a laboratory or field investigation or from a description of a generic experiment.

The class begins January 14, 2020 and meets 3 times per week. The hours of the class are negotiable, but typically will fall between 8:00am and 5:00pm on campus.

Qualified applicants will be dedicated to innovative teaching, building relationships, and are welcoming to opportunities that will allow them to work with a diverse campus and community.

Lab & Teaching Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching undergraduate students in a specific field of expertise
  • Developing and managing the class syllabus and ensuring that the syllabus meets department and college standards
  • Planning and creating lectures, in-class discussions, and assignments
  • Grading assigned papers, quizzes, and exams
  • Assessing grades for students based on participation, performance in class, assignments and examinations
  • Collaborating with department colleagues on course curriculum
  • Advising students on how to be successful in class
  • Late afternoon and/or evening assignments may be required as part of this appointment

Minimum Qualifications and Education: 

  • Ph.D. or Master’s in the area of teaching
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence in the liberal arts
  • Verifiable teaching experience
