Position Summary:

The Director of Development, Crummer Graduate School of Business (DoD), is an active member of the Institutional Advancement team. The DoD reports to the Assistant Vice President for Development with a dotted line to the Dean of the Crummer Graduate School of Business. The DoD is charged with the strategic oversight of the Crummer Graduate School’s philanthropic efforts. The DoD will determine Crummer’s philanthropic priorities in collaboration with the Dean and the Assistant Vice President for Development. The DoD will be responsible for managing a targeted prospect portfolio of the School’s top supporters capable of making major, principal and annual leadership gifts. Focusing on strategy; donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; and frequent travel, the DoD will develop and deliver ambitious seven-figure goals to grow and diversify the School’s philanthropic revenue streams. A highly visible representative of the College, the DoD has a deep appreciation for the liberal arts college experience, graduate business programs, and a strong personal commitment to Rollins College’s core values.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Develops and executes annual and multi-year fundraising plans to ensure a robust and sustainable pipeline of support from individuals, foundations, and corporations as appropriate. Works with the dean and assistant vice president as well as colleagues within prospect research and analysis, donor relations, major giving, foundation relations, planned giving, and the annual leadership gifts teams to develop solicitation priorities, measures of success, and strategies for major-gift-level prospects including engaging the president and other senior leadership at the College as appropriate.
  • Manages a portfolio of major donors/prospects ($50K+) with a focus on sound fundraising practices using metrics for accountability measurements to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Focuses on securing gifts for the Crummer Graduate School of Business priorities that include but may not be limited to general endowment, student financial aid, academic programs, unrestricted support, facility renovations and new facilities.
  • Travels frequently to regional areas of philanthropic interest, soliciting gifts as appropriate; and serving as an ambassador for Rollins College and advocate and spokesperson for leadership support.
  • Partners with annual leadership and other major gift officers, gift planning, corporate and foundation relations, and prospect research colleagues on solicitations. Collaborates with donor relations to develop effective stewardship strategies.
  • Understand current funding priorities of the College with a focus on select funding opportunities within the Division of Institutional Advancement through frequent interface with the Assistant Vice President for Development, the Dean and other advancement and development colleagues.
  • Prepares briefing materials, solicitation strategies, and proposals for fundraising calls.

 Central Development Collaboration

  • Coordinates with central development staff and other cross-functional team members to identify prospects and develops team solicitation plans for planned giving, individual, corporate and foundation relations and principal gifts.
  • Empowers other members of the Institutional Advancement team to be successful front-line fundraisers for the Crummer Graduate School of Business through their assigned portfolios of donor and prospect relationships.
  • Upholds and exemplifies the operating practices of the Institutional Advancement Division in support of the goals and mission of the College and School.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President for Development in collaboration with the Dean.


  • Assists in the facilitation of meetings, communications, informational exchanges and project/philanthropic coordination with the Dean and senior staff of the School.
  • Plans for and initiates direct activities with prospects that are designed to enhance the affiliation between the prospect and the School.
  • Negotiates gift agreements, prepares and presents proposals. Prepares correspondence with prospects and documents communications, solicitation activity and gift information in compliance with Institutional Advancement reporting guidelines.
  • Creates, inspires and maintains donor loyalty, interest and enthusiasm through stewardship communication and activities designed to express recognition, appreciation and the impact of their gift(s). Implementation of such a stewardship plan may include, but should not be limited to: letters, communication of School initiatives, invitations to appropriate activities, meetings, events, student engagement or the facilitation of campus visits.
  • Provides counsel to IA staff on alumni/outreach programming relating to the Crummer Graduate School of Business.
  • Participates in key on-campus and off-campus events for the purposes of donor cultivation, enhancing familiarity with the School and working collaboratively with Institutional Advancement staff.
  • Protects confidential information.

Volunteer Board Management

  • Under the direction of the Dean, acts as the staff liaison and coordinates management of the Board of Overseers and related boards and committees associated with the Crummer Graduate School of Business.

Education and Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • A minimum of three years successful experience in major gift fundraising or related fields, preferably within higher education for a graduate business program.
  • Demonstrated ability to make the case for giving with clear evidence of effectively securing financial support for multi-million dollar programs or initiatives, including producing record of leadership level solicitations and closures.
  • Exhibits and promotes a comprehensive understanding of the philanthropic priorities of the School and College, effectively matching the specific interests of prospects to those needs.
  • Effectively manages the details of a fundraising professional including timely submission of contact and expense reports and utilization of the technical tools of fundraising.
  • Ability to develop authentic relationships and understand the needs and interests of donors.
  • Interest in all aspects of higher education.
  • Understanding of a residential liberal arts college and a graduate business program or ability to learn quickly.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to include effective and persuasive writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Strong decision-making skills, ability to work with confidential information; tact and discretion are essential.
  • Ability to proficiently prioritize and organize work assignments and perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment.
  • Ability to facilitate strong communications with colleagues, donors, prospective donors and alumni.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able and willing to maintain an aggressive travel schedule (expectation is 60% of time spent out-the-door making face-to-face donor visits).
