Job 
Summary:

The Accessibility Services Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Accessibility Services and works alongside other Coordinators and in collaboration with Faculty to deliver day-to-day services and accommodations to students registered with the Office of Accessibility Services. A commitment to student development and success, experiential learning, and a high level of student interaction is essential.

Work in collaboration with the coordinator team to:

  • Review accommodation requests and supporting documentation to determine eligibility for accommodations.
  • Meet with students to review accommodations and instruct them in their use.
  • Communicate with Faculty or other staff as appropriate to advocate for students’ needs.
  • Proctor tests, scribe and act as reader as needed.
  • Coordinate note-taking accommodations by managing note-taking technologies.
  • Manage the alternative format textbook accommodation.
  • Provide training for and track loans of smart pens, audio recorders, and other assistive technology.
  • Work one-on-one with students with academic warnings to ensure they are utilizing their accommodations.
  • Work one-on-one with students to develop stronger executive functioning skills.
  • Meet with students to answer questions about their accommodations and provide care and support.
  • Stay abreast of changes to applicable laws and regulations surrounding accessibility services, best practices, and assistive technology.
  • Track data for assessment purposes.
  • Participate in departmental efforts to spread awareness of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging as they relate to accessibility.
  • Answer the department phone line and department email and assist with front desk operations as needed.

Minimum 
Qualifications & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field required.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Fair Housing Act.
  • Knowledge of the needs of higher education students with disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two years of job-related experience.
  • Master’s degree.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to foster working relationships with both on and off campus parties.
  • Ability to respectfully communicate, collaborate and relate to students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of alternative text formats and the steps needed to deliver them to eligible students.
  • Knowledge of the Universal Design model.
  • Knowledge and experience in training student populations.
  • Knowledge of Assistive Technology implementation and best practices.
  • Willingness to undergo regular training in new Assistive Technology devices, practices and protocols.
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population and promote a campus climate of inclusion and participation by all students.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and the ability to deal with complex and sometimes sensitive issues.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.

Work Schedule:

The Coordinator role is a full-time 12-month appointment, scheduled to work 7.5 hours/day, 37.5 hours per week. The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm.*

*Overtime and weekends may be required as needed.

Work Environment:

  • Campus-based, front-facing customer service position, working in an office environment.
  • Work requires visual strain and use of computer.

It is the mission of the Accessibility Services Team at Rollins College to address barriers to learning, facilitate accessible learning environments, and champion equal access for the entire campus community. We do this by:

  • Facilitating consultations and collaboration with faculty, staff and students.
  • Interacting with students to determine individualized and sustainable approaches to learning strategies.
  • Educating the campus community about disability, access, independence and self-advocacy.
  • Providing accommodations to students with qualifying disabilities.
  • Modeling best practices across all dimensions of wellness to support the campus community.
