Position Information:

Anticipated Employment Dates: August 2023 – May 31, 2024 (start date flexible)

Schedule: 20 hours per week -> Serve 15 hrs/week in office with additional 5 hrs dedicated to student org meetings/events. The exact start date and schedule will be determined by the supervisor and the selected candidate.

Work Environment:
Office setting, Occasional bending/lifting/twisting.


Pay: The hourly pay rate is $15/hr. and there are no benefits associated with this position.

Position Summary:

The Center for Leadership & Community Engagement (CLCE) is seeking a dynamic, energetic, and creative graduate student to join their team. The Leadership Initiatives Graduate Assistant creates intentional intersections between leadership experiences and practical application in addition to crafting opportunities for all students to engage on-campus through leadership facilitations/activities/experiences.

  • Serve as the Staff Advisor for the Emerging Leadership Institute
    • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate 4 ELI Facilitators
    • Assist in developing curriculum, recruiting participants, acquiring signed waivers, securing lodging, transportation, meals, supplies, etc.
    • Facilitate weekly meetings with the ELI Facilitators as a group and attend biweekly 1:1 meetings with each student facilitator
    • Manage ELI Facilitator projects via Teams, Google Docs, etc.
    • Attend the Emerging Leadership Institute in the Fall and Spring including all Pre & Post Trip Meetings.
    • Assess learning outcomes and program quality using Qualtrics
  • Assist in the facilitation of leadership development trainings, workshops, and initiatives for student, staff, and faculty (Ex. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, StrengthsQuest, True Colors, LeaderShape, Project Adventure,etc)
    • Gather materials, promote events to the campus, and assess learning outcomes/program quality using Qualtrics
  • Plan and implement the Rita Bornstein Student Leadership Forum
    • Collaborate with key campus partners to bring in a diverse set of guest speakers that connects with the student population in innovative and exciting ways.
    • Plan and solidify all partnership events for the school year by September 30th
    • Keep track of all required budget reporting and post-event reflections
    • Assess learning outcomes and program quality using Qualtrics
  • Support leadership trainings and development across campus and in collaboration with other teams and departments
  • Assist in the design and implementation of campus collaborative Leadership Menu initiative.
  • Find one (1) professional development opportunity to attend.
    • Must attend before April 2024. The office will support $500 worth of conference fees, travel, and accommodations. A short proposal should include budget information as well as the purpose of the conference and what you plan to bring back to campus as a result.
  • General Office Responsibilities
    • Maintain Outlook Calendar and respond to emails in timely, professional manner
    • Serve as a mentor and resource to all students across campus
    • Represent CLCE at campus events i.e. first-year orientation, experience Rollins, etc.
    • Assist in supporting, advising, and supervising CLCE student employees
    • Track participant(s) for all events, initiatives, etc. in the CLCE Dashboard
    • Assess CLCE programming and complete grant reports
    • Familiarize yourself with CE Best Practices and Leadership Development theories
    • Become well-versed in the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals
    • Facilitate at least one immersion experience
    • Conduct and/or attend Community Partner site visit(s)
    • Attend all CLCE Team meetings and retreats (including student retreats)
    • Familiarize yourself with GivePulse & GetInvolved
    • Comfort driving a 15 Passenger Mini-Bus
    • Attend VPSA Trainings and Retreats
    • Attend “All Hands-on Deck” campus-wide events (may fall on evenings/weekends)
    • Maintain a professional office space and be mindful of shared spaces i.e. cleanliness
    • Effectively utilize Office 365, Adobe Creative programs, Teams, Canva, Foxlink, etc.

Minimum 
Qualifications and Skill Sets:

  • Pursuing a Masters degree in student personnel/student affairs, counseling, higher education, or related field.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to student involvement, have significant experience in working with diverse populations in a collegiate setting and demonstrate an understanding of student development theory.
  • Creative, self-motivated, self-driven, have a healthy regard for fostering community development, and a passion for working with students.
  • Possess a strong desire to work collaboratively with staff and faculty across campus, be willing to challenge themselves and others in intellectual growth and development,
  • Has a strong interest/experiences in leadership development, community engagement, and social justice
  • Possess strong facilitation skills and significant experience in leadership education and development.
  • Demonstrate skills in effective communication, supervision, program development with measured results.
  • Demonstrate competence in mentoring and advising.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain an Florida driver's license within 30 days of accepting the job, and acceptable MVR are required.

Education Requirement:

The incumbent must be actively enrolled in a graduate degree seeking program in order to qualify for this position and must remain actively enrolled in a graduate degree seeking program for the duration of their employment in this position. This assistantship is intended for currently enrolled graduate students or individuals whose enrollment into a graduate degree program is imminent (E.g. student has been accepted into a graduate degree program and is awaiting the start classes in the immediate future). Incumbent should be seeking an experiential opportunity in their degree field which may or may not be a requirement for graduation.
