Position Summary:

The Department of Philosophy at Rollins College invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning August 2024.

Area of Specialization: History of Modern Philosophy, Philosophy of Science, and Philosophy of Mind (in the analytic tradition)

Area of Competency: Philosophy of Language and/or Philosophy of Technology

Candidates should have a deep familiarity with the Western traditional canon as well as challenges, critiques, or alternatives to it. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate that they can excel at teaching in a dynamic department with a strong major. The successful candidate must show that they can advise, mentor, and actively recruit students to the major.

Teaching responsibilities will include a course in the History of Modern Philosophy; Introduction to Formal Logic; Introduction to Philosophy; advanced courses in Philosophy of Mind, and Philosophy of Science; and additional courses in the candidate’s area(s) of specialization at introductory and advanced levels. The teaching load is 3/3. The successful candidate will participate in the College’s interdisciplinary general education curriculum.

Minimum Qualifications and Education: 

  • Ph.D. (or ABD) in Philosophy
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence in a liberal arts institution
  • Shows potential to effectively educate and mentor a diverse student population
  • Record of scholarly activity showing strong potential for future publication
