Job
Summary:

The Assistant Director of Advancement Communications will support the college’s engagement and fundraising priorities by developing comprehensive and cohesive strategies for alumni communications, while also ensuring seamless integration with other advancement marketing efforts and communications. This position will plan and implement multi-channel marketing and communication campaigns for alumni engagement that support the four pillars of engagement: communications, experiential engagement/events, volunteerism, and philanthropy. These efforts are part of the larger departmental goal to create a more engaged alumni base that inspires a more robust, sustainable pipeline of annual donors to Rollins.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Annual Giving and Advancement Marketing, this position will have excellent writing and communication skills, strong attention to detail, superior project management acumen, and a proactive relationship builder. The successful candidate will be a proven manager of broad-based and personalized communications in multiple platforms, including digital, print, and video.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communication and marketing strategies to achieve the goals of the Division of Institutional Advancement and alumni engagement.
  • As content specialist, create original and compelling content for email communications, print collateral, social media, web, and other communication channels. Lead content development and production of monthly alumni email newsletter and news amplification across channels. Contribute content to the bi-annual Rollins Magazine.
  • Develop and implement content strategies that engage and inspire alumni and donors using a channel mix that includes but is not limited to email, social media, website, direct mail, print, texting, and video. Marketing plans will include audience segmentation, timing, channels, messages, and goals. This position ensures that College and Advancement editorial strategies, messaging, and branding are understood and adhered to in all work produced by Advancement.
  •  Manage the development of marketing materials for strategic projects, future campaigns, and special initiatives for Institutional Advancement.
  • Manage projects/programs from strategy and creation, through successful implementation. Ensure error-free content, coordinate data pulls, manage production schedules and calendars, and track costs and expenditures.
  • Serve as social media manager for alumni social media channels. Develop a calendar for each social channel and produce content and monitor engagement for ongoing optimization. Harness the existing alumni social networks to help share good news from and about Rollins across multiple platforms.
  • Maintain a list of notable or interesting alumni for use with communication tools, including writing or obtaining interviews that include testimonials, quotes, photographs, video segments, and imagery to use to promote the success stories of our alumni and compliment the messaging included in our strategies as often as possible.
  • Research best practices and remain current on trends, strategies, and services offered by other institutions. Draft and maintain documentation for social media and direct marketing processes and policies, as applicable.
  • Ensure best practices are developed and deployed while also ensuring marketing efforts test new and existing strategies. Establish, track, and analyze results and outcomes of all marketing efforts to measure success and make decisions to improve messaging/content/imagery, etc. to maximize the return on investment of future campaigns.
  • Oversee and manage Advancement websites with Marketing and Institutional Advancement colleagues. Responsible for maintaining content, design, and keeping visual and textual content fresh and interesting. Develop strategies to integrate and promote web content to support deeper engagement and giving.
  • Maintain close effective working relationships with colleagues across Advancement, Rollins Marketing, and Communications & External Relations offices, other campus partners, and outside vendors.
  • Support Alumni Weekend and other alumni or development programs, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communication, or Journalism, or related discipline;
  • At least two (2) years of digital communications or marketing job-related experience; 
  • At least two (2) years of directly related writing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Alumni communications and/or higher education or non-profit experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Possess persuasive writing and editing skills with an attention to detail; thorough knowledge of business English, spelling, and grammar.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creative energy, and ability to manage complex projects or communications. Flexible, self-motivated, adaptable, and comfortable working in ambiguous, ever changing, fast-paced environments.
  • Superior planning, project management, and organizational skills; keen attention to detail; ability to set and balance multiple priorities and manage time effectively in a deadline-driven environment. Be an active problem solver.
  • Creative and resourceful thinker with strong skills in collaboration and partnership-building. Ability to work independently and as a team player while handling multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Experience employing technology, digital marketing tools, data management, and analytics to optimize alumni engagement. Familiarity with relevant and contemporary tools/technologies for email marketing, social media, e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Hivebrite (RollinsConnect), web content management, graphic/design, e.g., Canva, video, etc. Willingness to become an expert in how to use tools to increase engagement.
  • An aptitude for numbers, data, and analysis is essential. Strong Excel skills are necessary to manage and fully utilize alumni engagement technologies. Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy are crucial.
  • Computer fluency including Microsoft Office Suite, ability to learn and utilize CRM database, reporting tools, and other technology/systems.
  • A strong desire to learn the unique characteristics and culture of Rollins College and appreciate the passion and expectations of its alumni.
  • Ability to handle confidential information, maintain and update files with a high degree of accuracy, and sensitivity to the importance of stewardship and donor relations.

Work Environment:

 

  • Campus-based, front-facing position, working in an office environment. 
  • Work requires visual strain and the use of a computer.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as appropriate for Advancement events throughout the year including Alumni/Advancement events, Alumni Weekend, and Family Weekend.
