Position Summary:

Graduate Assistants in the Center for Career and Life Planning (CCLP) support the delivery of a broad range of career-related services, programs, and resources for approximately 2,800 undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Liberal Arts and the Hamilton Holt School as well as alumni of each of these programs. Embodying Rollins Gateway—our signature approach to preparing students for global citizenship, responsible leadership, meaningful lives, and productive careers—this role will help students identify, connect, and maximize their interdisciplinary experiences to chart unique career pathways through Rollins and beyond.

The Career Access & Inclusion Graduate Assistant will work primarily on career access and internship initiatives, while also supporting overarching Career and Life Planning programs and career advising after receiving thorough training.

Primary Responsibilities

Gateway Fellows Initiatives

  • Work alongside the Assistant Director of Internship Advising to manage broad aspects of the Funded Internship Programs, including the JFF and Gateway Fellows internships
  • Create, update, and distribute program application forms and marketing materials
  • Collect and review applications, disseminate applications for review by the CCLP selection team, and communicate with all applicants
  • Coordinate all post-Gateway internship student requirements
  • Collaborate with the Student Center for Inclusion & Belonging to provide career preparation support to students from marginalized populations and those interested in LGBTQIA+ and social justice work through appointments and outreaches
  • Research, identify, and connect with non-profit organizations whose efforts focus on LGBTQIA+ and social justice issues. Encourage and support these organizations in crafting and promoting internship opportunities for our students in Handshake and other platforms

Internship Advising, Program Management & Employer Connections

  • Serve as lead internship search and academic internship registration graduate assistant
  • Create and manage communication marketing campaigns through social media, email, and other channels with the goal of promoting high-impact opportunities
  • Research and help implement best practices that elevate the value of internships and experiential learning engagements, enhance intern, employer, and faculty resources, and conduct assessments to improve program outcomes
  • Leverage student connections to collect impactful experiences and assist in sharing the story and value of internship programs
  • Support event planning and program delivery—employer and internship information sessions, networking events, receptions, and tabling
  • Coordinate event logistics and implementation including drafting event plans, posting and managing events in Handshake, and tracking participation and attendance
  • Work alongside the Assistant Director, Internship Advising to develop and maintain relationships with employers recruiting at Rollins College
  • Expand employer network by researching and initiating contact with new organizations offering potential job, internship, and experiential learning opportunities
  • Assist with employer communication, and create new Handshake internship postings as applicable

CCLP General:

  • Participate in required ongoing training, including intensive training at the beginning of the semester followed by ongoing shadowing and training sessions 
  • Provide exceptional customer service to CCLP visitors and callers including students, alumni faculty, staff, parents, and employers 
  • After thorough training, provide career development support through one-on-one career advising appointments and drop-in sessions to assist students and alumni in all stages of career development including major choice, career exploration, internship planning, networking, job search, and graduate school application 
  • Critique resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, and personal statements for students and alumni applying for internships, jobs, graduate school admission, and scholarships 
  • Lead outreach presentations and workshops on a variety of career-related topics 
  • Support CCLP career readiness initiatives, event coordination, and management
  • Represent the Center for Career & Life Planning in orientations, tabling events, panels, etc.
  • Support Gateway programming, strategy, and implementation through cross-departmental collaboration, integration of Gateway language into CCLP programming, and help students identify and articulate their Gateway experiences
  • Provide front desk support

Position Information:

Anticipated Employment Dates:  August 19, 2024 - May 31, 2025. Additional summer hours starting as early as June 1, 2025, could be available dependent on need and a mutually agreed upon schedule.

Supervisor Name and Department: Jessica Jurado Arroyo, Assistant Director of Internship Advising, Center for Career & Life Planning

Scheduled Hours: The Center for Career & Life Planning is open from Monday through Friday, 8:30 am--5:00 pm. Occasional evening and weekend assistance may be needed. The graduate assistant will be working 20 hours per week. The final schedule is determined based on availability and department needs. Weeks off: Fall Break (1), Thanksgiving (1 week), Winter Break (4 weeks, 12/13-01/09), Spring Break (1 week).

Work Environment: Office environment requiring sitting for extended periods of time, traveling across campus, and occasions bending/lifting/twisting.

Pay: The hourly pay rate is $15/hr. and there are no benefits associated with this position.

Qualifications and Skill Sets:

The Graduate Assistant serving in this position must demonstrate a strong work ethic, a high degree of initiative, dependability and personal accountability, adaptability, and the ability to work both independently and in teams. Additional skills and aptitudes include:

  • Interest in helping/serving others, with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills, including presentations
  • Comfortable with professional communication, including calling and emailing external constituents and employers
  • Experience in event organization
  • Understanding of and familiarity with social media marketing and event promotion
  • Comfortable with using and learning new technology
  • Sound knowledge of research and assessment skills
  • Strong organizational & project management skills
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality
  • Preference is given to students willing to work 4 days/week, 5 hours/day

Education Requirement:

Candidates interested in this role must be actively enrolled or incoming Rollins graduate students. Pending the hiring offer, new student employees (who have not worked at the college within the last two years) will need to complete new hire documents.
