Job 
Summary:

The Associate Director (AD) of Residential Life plays a pivotal role in fostering an inclusive, academically enriching, and socially engaging residential community that promotes the holistic development of students. This live-on position provides leadership in housing operations for 1,500 to 1,800 residential students, staff supervision, crisis management, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) initiatives, while also overseeing critical functions such as housing assignments, billing, and move in/out procedures. Reporting to the Assistant Dean/Director, the AD collaborates with campus partners to support the mission and goals of the Office of Residential Life and the Division of Student Affairs. In the absence of the Assistant Dean/Director of Residential Life, the Associate Director assumes the supervisory responsibility for the Residential Life Office and student-housing program.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Housing Operations

  • Responsible for design, execution, and oversight of all Incoming and Returning Student Housing processes
  • Oversight of Housing Assignments including room changes, room matching, dining plans
  • Develop and execute training sessions for the housing software, The Housing Director (THD). Operationalize housing applications via THD.
  • Access Manager for Housing Access Software
  • Serve as the lead staff member for Blackboard management and Persona management

Supervision

  • Hire, train, and supervise two full-time professional Area Coordinators
  • Develop and evaluate performance of supervisees annually. 
  • Residential community supervision including implementation of the Residential Curriculum
  • Indirect supervision of the operations manager, 20+ resident assistants, and senior resident assistants

Crisis Response

  • Serve in the On-Call Duty Rotation
  • Understand and uphold the Code of Community Standards and Guide to Residence Hall Living

Administrative & Department Responsibilities

  • Oversight of Housing Operations training for all Residential Life & Explorations staff
  • Coordinate Move In/Out processes
  • Oversight of the department’s communications plan for Housing Operations
  • Lead departmental DEIB initiatives

Professional Development

  • Assist with creating an annual professional development plan and goals
  • Participate in staff training and development opportunities
  • Be involved in regional and national professional organizations and, when possible, attend conferences

Minimum 
Qualifications & Education:

  • A master’s degree.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in residential life. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues related to residential living and student development theory.
  • Demonstrated skills in staff supervision, training, and leadership, crisis intervention and management, conflict resolution, written and oral communication; budget management, residence hall administration and assessment; project management.
  • Strong attention to detail and well-developed organization skills are essential.

Preferred
Qualifications:

  • Education background in student development, higher education administration, or leadership development.
  • Possess an interest and ability to work with computer programs and have experience working with StarRez-The Housing Director Software, Roompact, Persona Key Card Software, Blackboard or similar programs and have a working knowledge of how these different programs work together.
  • Knowledge about and/or experience in a small, residential, liberal arts college.

Work Environment:

  • Live-in role and office environment. 
  • Evening and weekend work hours and rotating on-call responsibilities.
  • Must be able to traverse stairs and travel between multiple buildings as part of duties.
  • Campus-based, front-facing customer service position, and working in an office environment.
  • Work requires visual strain and the use of a computer.
  • Fast-paced team environment requiring an ability to multitask.
