Job Summary:

The Rollins College Psychology department is seeking a service-oriented Animal Care Technician to join their team. 

  • Ensure the health of animals, cleanliness of laboratory/procedure rooms, and functionality of equipment (routine maintenance)
  • Maintain a breeding stock of animals and maintain accurate records
  • Provide assistance to students in handling animals
  • Procure (orders and picks up) food and supplies for laboratory animals
  • Transport animals to veterinarian
  • Administer medication to animals
  • Euthanize animals
  • Maintaining accurate records of numbers and types of animals needed by Departments

Minimum 
Qualifications & Education:

  • Elementary school education
  • Ability to read, write, and follow basic instructions
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain a Florida driver's license within 30 days of accepting the job, and an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least six months of job-related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of laboratory practices and procedures in the care of animals
  • Ability to handle and provide care to a variety of laboratory animals
  • Ability to understand and interpret written and oral instructions
  • Ability to maintain records with a high degree of accuracy

Work Schedule:

The Animal Care Technician role is a full-time 12-month appointment, scheduled to work 28 hours per week. The schedule for this role is:

  • Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 2:30 pm 

*Works holidays, overtime, afternoons, and weekends may be required.

Work Environment:

  • Works on-campus and in a laboratory.
  • Work requires physical strain and with the physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Work requires exposure to noise and odors associated with animals.
