Position Summary:
|
The Olin Library at Rollins College seeks an outstanding and dynamic Science and Math Librarian who is dedicated to excellence in teaching and will help to shape our instruction and research programming. The Science and Math Librarian will participate in instruction and research services, including research consultation, teaching, and serving as the library liaison to Science and Math departments. The incumbent also works collaboratively across the College with liaison departments to support innovative initiatives including open access, open educational resources, artificial intelligence, data management services, and data literacy.
This position is a tenure track faculty position within Olin Library and reports to the Chair of Library Research and Instruction Services. The Science and Math Librarian may be appointed as an assistant or associate professor, based on experience. Librarians with faculty status at Rollins College are expected to show a pattern of growth and development in teaching, librarianship, scholarship, and service that will continue throughout their career at Rollins.
Essential Job Functions
Instruction
- Provide information literacy and research-focused instruction in the general education curriculum, undergraduate instruction, upper division, subject-specific information literacy, and research instruction
- Develop new and creative ways to enhance the information literacy and critical thinking skills of students, as well as innovating information literacy instruction across the curriculum
- Work collaboratively with campus partners to support research and develop new teaching and research methods and modalities
Research Assistance
- Provide research assistance at Olin Library
- Provide research support for students and faculty
- Confer and partner with Olin librarians in the ongoing maintenance and development of the library’s research assistance and information literacy programs
- Maintain a working knowledge of developments in data management, data literacy, and data set availability in support of teaching in science and math fields
Liaison
- Partner with science and math departmental faculty to improve student information literacy and critical thinking skills
- Work with the Head of Collections and faculty members in liaison areas to develop the collection in all formats; demonstrate continued familiarity with science and math resources in all formats and emerging resource trends
- Seek innovative projects, services, and resources in partnership with faculty and students to continuously improve library presence in the instructional programs for the Sciences
- Work with science and math faculty on assignment design
Professional Development, Research & Scholarship
- Demonstrate continued membership and activity in appropriate professional organizations, represent Olin Library and Rollins College through publication, presentation, and attendance at conferences
- Continue professional development in an appropriate area(s) of librarianship
- Research and scholarship in academic librarianship or another closely related appropriate discipline

Minimum Qualifications and Education:
|
- MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited library program.
- Educational background and/or work experience that indicates an ability to integrate the work of the library into a campus community.
|
Preferred Qualifications:
|
- Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in a science or math field.
- Research and instruction experience in an academic, government, public, or corporate library.
|
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

- Enthusiasm and experience with information literacy instruction for groups and individuals.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to interact with the public and academic community effectively and courteously.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
- Appreciation for liberal arts education and the role of the library in higher education.
- Ability to adapt to change in a library environment.
- The potential to present, publish, or otherwise contribute to academic librarianship or another appropriate discipline.
