Job Summary:

The Operations Assistant will support Student Media through revenue generating projects, opportunities to professionalize student employees, and program assessment. This position helps to facilitate and advise four student-led media organizations.

Rollins Student Media comprises the Sandspur student newspaper, WPRK 91.5 FM, Brushing Art and Literary Journal, and the Independent magazine. These organizations serve the campus and community while providing a meaningful learning experience to student employees. The department is informed by Rollins’s mission of educating students for global citizenship and responsible leadership, empowering graduates to pursue meaningful lives and productive careers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Revenue-Generating Projects: These include advertising sales and donation solicitation. Achieving success will mean sustaining revenue growth and integrating the staffs of each student media organization into the fundraising process.

    Activities Include:
    - Leading a sales team of student employees
    - Producing price quotes and invoices
    - Tracking student hours spent on projects
    - Seeing through the delivery of media and proof of ad placement
    - Planning and assisting in opportunities to encourage donations to Student Media

  2. Student-Professionalizing Opportunities: Plan opportunities to prepare students for career-readiness. These may include interactive sessions on job searches and guest speakers who share their journeys from Student Media to careers.

  3. Program Assessment: Gather data about the student experience and analyze its meaning toward program effectiveness.

Qualifications & Education:

  • At least six months media or job-related experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Fund raising experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Experience working with confidential and sensitive materials.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple demands efficiently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interact tactfully and judiciously.

Work Schedule:

  • The Student Media Operations Assistant role is a temporary, 12-month appointment, scheduled to work 20 hours per week, for less than 1,000 hours annually.
  • Weekly schedule may be flexible, with most of the work occurring during regular working hours between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Work Environment:

  • Campus-based, front-facing customer service position, working in an office environment with other staff members.
  • Regular use of a computer and databases.

Rollins offers an hourly rate of $16 and there are no benefits associated with this position.
