Position Summary:

The Rollins College Department of Theatre & Dance invites applications for an Artist in Residence in Lighting Design for a one-year, full-time, non-tenure track faculty teaching position, beginning fall term 2024. This position is open for potential renewal on a yearly basis. Extensive experience in theatrical lighting production and teaching experience required and an MFA in Lighting Design is required. Position includes 4/4 teaching load with course release for mainstage lighting design and production credits.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, designing, and collaborating with colleagues. Responsibilities include overseeing lighting design and design implementation for all productions in both departmental theatre spaces. In addition, the candidate will be expected to teach courses in their area(s) of expertise for both the major and the general education curriculum. Artists in Residence are eligible to apply for college funding to support travel and opportunities for professional development and are welcomed and encouraged to participate fully in Department and College life.

Additional expectations include:

• Attends all design and production meetings to collaborate with Production Team for each production.
• Produces original lighting designs for assigned productions and implements said design. Oversees the completion of all lighting needs including hang, focus, and strike for each production.
• Attends all Theatre & Dance faculty/staff meetings.
• Instructs and trains student lighting crews on use and handling of all lighting equipment.
• Instructs and trains students to follow all relevant safety codes and standards including OSHA, ANSI, and Rollins Theatre safety protocols.
• Manages all lighting production budgets and maintains all lighting equipment implementing repairs as needed, including yearly maintenance. Keeps track of/repairs lighting needs during performance weeks.
• Maintains equipment, consumables, accessories, dimmers, and control systems for all theatres and the design classroom’s Yeager Lighting Lab.
• Teaches courses, independent studies, and mentors students in the areas of Lighting Design, Master Electrician, and Technical Theatre production. Teaches in the Rollins general education rFLA program as needed.
• Maintains after-hours on-call availability during the run of each production.
• Meets all physical requirements of the position including, but not limited to, lifting up to 50lbs, working at above-floor-level heights including use of ladders and personnel lifts.
• Performs other duties deemed reasonable to the position as assigned by the Director of Theatre, Academic Chair, or Production Manager.

Minimum Qualifications & Education: 

• Extensive experience in theatrical lighting production and teaching experience.
• MFA in Lighting Design or commensurate professional experience in a related field.
