Position Summary:

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Health Promotions, the Wellness Outreach Graduate Assistant (GA) is responsible for assisting the Project Director and Health Promotions Coordinator with various aspects of wellness, including the implementation of the 9 dimensions of wellness and the Rollins Suicide Prevention project.  This includes assisting with outreach, event planning & programming, communications operations, tracking training activities and entering appropriate data into the data management system, assisting in creating positive community norm campaigns, and promoting QPR trainings to departments with significant interaction with target population students. The GA may be responsible for other duties as assigned by the Substance Abuse Counselor or Project Director. The Graduate Assistant will have the responsibility of assisting with research, outreach, event planning & programming, communications operations, and miscellaneous office tasks.

Program Coordinating & Event Planning (Outreach):

  • Responsible for coordinating logistics for wellness outreach events
  • Assists with the planning and execution of health education events, activities, and campaigns for wellness outreach throughout campus
  • Assist in coordination of Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) trainings
  • Work closely with Health Promotions and Mental Health Outreach to plan initiatives around various wellness topics
  • Conducts training for Rollins community on wellness topics
  • Conduct presentations about various wellness topics
  • Assists with daily transportation needs of wellness events
  • Assist other departments as needed, including the various needs of the Wellness Center (Health Promotions, Counseling, Health Services, and front desk)
  • Serves as a responsible member of the Wellness team
  • Participates in professional staff meetings periodically and student /staff joint meetings

Media & Communication:

  • Assist in the creation and implementation of positive community norming campaigns
  • Promote QPR trainings to various departments on campus that work closely with the identified target population
  • Participates in the design, development, and application of materials to support promotion of student health and well-being topics throughout the academic year
  • Conduct secondary research on effective communication tools for implementation purposes for suicide prevention
  • Responsible for email correspondence with campus partners, other campuses, and Wellness Ambassadors for programming efforts


  • Responsible for data entry of research evaluations
  • Assists with the evaluation of events and activities for the department
  • Responsible for encapsulating all data regarding outreach efforts

Office Tasks:

  • Responsible for organizing relevant information of Health Promotions tasks and projects
  • Assists in organization of supplies before and after events
  • Participates in event, trainings, and activities, including set up and take down
  • Serve as Front Desk Receptionist, as needed

Anticipated Employment Dates: August 2019 - May 31, 2020.

Anticipated Hours: 20 hours per week.


  1. Bi-weekly pay rate of $12.00/hr. over the academic semester

Preferred Qualifications and Skill Sets:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Enrolled in a Graduate program (Master’s level or Doctoral level)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, & Publisher)
  • Experience working with diverse populations of students
  • Educational background in Health & Wellness, Health Education, Health Promotion, Counseling, Social Work, Public Health and/or related Social Sciences
  • Personal skills: team-oriented, flexible, dependable, responsible, self-motivated, excellent work ethic, creative, time management skills, college-level written and verbal skills, genuine concern
  • Knowledgeable in college health-related topics
  • Ability to give formal and informal presentations on campus to students, faculty, and staff
  • Prior work/school experience in health education programming
  • Demonstrated leadership and initiative

Education Requirement:

Candidates interested in this role must be actively enrolled in a graduate degree-seeking program (Master’s level or Doctoral level) in order to qualify for this position, and must remain actively enrolled in a graduate degree-seeking program for the duration of their employment in this position.
