Position Summary:

The Campus Safety Office at Rollins College invites service-oriented individuals to apply for a full-time Security Officer position with their team! 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Advising, directing, and providing information to students, employees, and the public.
  • Patrolling the campus on foot or motor vehicle to ensure protection of all campus faculty, staff, students, and visitors, as well as securing all campus buildings, structures, and property (Areas include buildings, grounds, parking lot, adjacent streets, and off campus properties).
  • Responding to all accidents, crimes, and complaints calls occurring on campus property.
  • Assisting motorists, students, employees, and visitors on campus, answering calls for assistance, escorting students and others as requested.
  • Noting and taking preventative/corrective action on all hazards and areas of concern.
  • Preparing and maintaining necessary campus security records and reports.
  • Making preliminary investigative reports and collecting initial information for Campus Safety Incident Reports.
  • Enforcing traffic and parking regulations.
  • Providing safety security services for large gatherings and events on campus.
  • Administering first aid as necessary and calling for emergency medical services.
  • Assisting in the implementation of safety/security programs for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Assisting in the monitoring of computerized security systems.
  • Coordinating and working closely with local police and fire departments.
  • Opening and closing facilities ; monitoring and controlling access to building and restricted area.
  • Monitoring alarm systems and responding when necessary.
  • Inspecting buildings for security, fire, and other potential hazards.
  • Performing related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Two to three years of job-related experience is required.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment) and acceptable motor vehicle report (MVR) are required.
  • Ability to train, direct, and supervise the work of others.
  • Possess and maintain CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Possess and maintain State of Florida ‘Class D’ security license within 90 days of hire.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of modern safety/police practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and abiding by all guidelines associated with the Clery Act and Title IX.
  • Strong service orientation with a demonstrated ability to effectively meet the needs of and work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, and public.
  • Ability to use tact and good judgment in resolving work problems and dealing with the public, students, and staff.
  • Ability to work in demanding and stressful situations.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and other office related skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Work Schedule:

The Campus Safety Office provides 24-hour response to call for service, provides routine and directed patrol activities, parking enforcement, and preliminary investigation of most campus incidents. This position is scheduled to work Thursday - Monday, 3:00pm-11:00pm, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays off. Full-time Security Officers work approximately 40 hours per week, for a total of 2080 hours per year. 

Work Environment:

  • Front-facing customer service role on-campus (inside and outside).
  • This position is designated as Emergency Essential.  As such, as a condition of employment in this position, the incumbent will be subject to extended hours or call-in outside of regular hours as needed in order to respond to emergencies, including the preparation and maintenance of College facilities, grounds, systems and services during inclement weather crises.
  • Work requires exposure to potentially dangerous situations.
  • Work requires physical strain involving walking and standing for extended periods of time, requiring exposure to the elements. Must be able to run short distances, walk flight of stairs, and  lift 35 pounds.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts and be available for call-in outside of regular hours; overtime may be required as needed.
