Position 
Summary:

The Rollins College Student & Family Care team is seeking a Graduate Assistant to join their team! The responsibilities of the Student & Family Care Graduate Assistant are centered on the College mission of educating students for global citizenship and responsible leadership, empowering graduates to pursue meaningful lives and productive careers.

The Student & Family Care GA reports to the Assistant Director of Student & Family Care and provides oversight of crisis management cases and other student-related issues. As a non-clinical care manager for undergraduate students, the person in this position will have primary responsibility for providing support to students facing a range of challenges including but not limited to issues related to mental health, adjustment concerns, academic concerns, and other behaviors in the campus community. The Student & Family Care GA will help plan and provide a variety of interventions, referrals, and follow-up services, maintain factual case records, and provide outreach and education about the care program to the campus community.

The Student & Family Care GA impacts student support and care on the Rollins campus. This position will assist in the following capacities, being directly responsible for (5) main initiatives:

  • STUDENT OUTREACH AND SUPPORT: Provide non-clinical care management for students referred to the Dean of Students: Student & Family Care department by:
    • Meeting with students referred to Student & Family Care.
    • Collaborating with appropriate staff to support students of concern.
    • Supporting community members seeking guidance around a range of student-related issues.
    • Maintaining factual case documentation.
    • Providing follow up outreach services.

  • DIVISION AND DEPARTMENTAL MEETINGS: Attend bi-weekly team meetings, weekly one-on-one supervisor meetings and monthly division meetings.

  • DIVERSITY & INCLUSION: Actively support the College’s commitment to diversity and inclusion to achieve and sustain excellence and embody this commitment both as a personal value and a professional priority.

  • CAMPUS INITIATIVES: Represent the Office of Student & Family Care at functions such as departmental programming, open houses, and student activity fairs.

  • OTHER: The Student & Family Care GA will have opportunities that will aid in professional and personal development including, but not limited to:
    • Collaboration with the Wellness Center, Title IX, Accessibility Services, Student Support Foundation and other campus constituents that support student care needs.
    • Participation in staff development opportunities.
    • Partaking in the Graduate Assistant curriculum. A strong emphasis will be placed on holistic development and personal wellbeing.

Minimum 
Qualifications & Skill Sets:

  • Strong interpersonal communication and challenge-resolution skills with an understanding of the unique challenges faced by student learners.
  • Strong management skills with the demonstrated ability to coordinate, manage, implement, and evaluate multiple cases over varied timelines and an ability to work independently once instructed is necessary.
  • Knowledge of time management skills, effective organizational skills, a working knowledge of campus resources, and a willingness to learn new skills throughout the year.
  • Have enthusiasm and creativity in devising new ways to promote the department, receive student referrals, and work with each student’s individual needs.
  • Must be able to handle difficult situations and confidential information with sensitivity and professionalism and requires a flexible time schedule, as office hours are Monday-Friday 8:30AM-5:00PM

Education Requirement:

The incumbent must be actively enrolled in a graduate degree-seeking program to qualify for this position and must remain actively enrolled in a graduate degree-seeking program for the duration of their employment in this position. This assistantship is intended for currently enrolled graduate students or individuals whose enrollment into a graduate degree program is imminent (e.g. student has been accepted into a graduate degree program and is awaiting the start of classes in the immediate future).

Position Information:

Anticipated Employment Dates: August 1, 2024 – May 31, 2025

Work Schedule: The GA is responsible for dedicating 900 hours to this position. The GA is expected to fulfill all hours during the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters. The scheduled work hours will be arranged each semester in agreement with the supervisor of this position. Although not a requirement, the GA may also work an occasional late afternoon/evening slot to accommodate programming initiatives.

Pay Rate: The hourly pay is $15 and there are no benefits associated with this position.

Work Environment:

  • Campus-based, front-facing customer service position, working in an office environment.
  • Work requires visual strain and the use of a computer.
