Position Summary:

Landscape & Grounds Services is currently seeking a Lead Groundskeeper to join their driven team to help maintain Rollins College as the most beautiful campus in the nation. Our campus landscape crews are responsible for several maintenance tasks and implement the Florida Best Management Practices Services in their day-to-day duties.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assists in the training and supervising of other Groundskeepers in the maintenance of the grounds, application and timing of herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, mowing, seeding, watering, fertilizing, etc.
  • Assists Director of Grounds in maintaining log of daily events, such as crew assignments, hours for time cards, uncompleted tasks, record of equipment in need of repairs and other information as deemed necessary.
  • Prioritizes and manages multiple jobs and projects across campus.
  • Collaborates with Director of Grounds daily to coordinate work schedules and equipment needed for crew. Keeps Director of Grounds apprised of any potential problems.
  • Operates mowers and light equipment in performing routine duties.
  • Plants/transplants landscape materials.
  • Cleans fountains, reflecting ponds and statues.
  • Lifts and carries heavy objects and/or equipment as needed.
  • Performs routine sprinkler maintenance in addition to preventive maintenance and minor repair of all grounds keeping equipment.
  • May assist other Facilities Services personnel in performance of routine and emergency tasks.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Total Compensation Package

The hourly pay rate is $15.00 plus a generous benefits package featuring:

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • High school education is required in order to read, write and follow basic instructions.
  • Requires a minimum of one year of job-related experience and previous supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of practices and procedures used in grounds maintenance, including the ability perform job sequencing and prioritizing projects based on the operational needs of the campus. 
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of small tools and equipment used and ability to make small repairs.
  • Ability to read and understand label instructions on chemicals.
  • Physical ability to handle, lift and/or carry heavy objects and equipment.
    Work requires physical exertion and exposure to the weather.
  • Overtime may be required as needed.
  • Must be punctual and reliable. Daily attendance is required. 

Work Environment:

This position will work in the winter from 7:00am to 3:00pm and summer 6:30-2:30pm, Monday - Friday.

  • Must be punctual and reliable. Daily attendance is required.
