Position Summary:

The Romano and Mariolina Salvatori Fellowship at the Cornell Fine Arts Museum provides in-depth training for advanced undergraduate and graduate students interested in gaining professional experience in a museum setting. The selected candidate works within the education department on day-to-day activities and manageable long-term projects. The fellowship provides both broad and deep involvement and offers the opportunity to gain working knowledge of the staff, programs, and operational functions of the museum.

Anticipated Employment Dates: August 2021 - May 2022 (Fellowship start and end dates correspond to the 2021-22 academic calendar).

The fellow’s primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting education staff with K12 and youth programs, developing art projects, researching the permanent
collection, and assisting with writing children’s didactics for exhibitions. The chosen candidate will also assist with docent training, help facilitate school group visits, and give public tours of the exhibitions on view at the museum and the contemporary art collection at The Alfond Inn. The fellowship concludes with an end-of-year capstone project based on the museum’s needs and the fellow’s specific area of interest.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The Cornell Fine Arts Museum Romano and Mariolina Salvatori Fellowship is open to all third and fourth year undergraduate and graduate students at Rollins College (CLA and Holt programs), the University of Central Florida, and Valencia College.

  • Applicants must be comfortable working with the public and interacting with diverse audiences.

Position Information: 

Pay Rate

  • The Fellowship includes a stipend of $2,400 per academic year. The stipend is distributed either is biweekly payments or 8 monthly payments of $300 each (September, October, November, December, January, February, March, and April).

Scheduled Hours

  • This position is scheduled to work 10 hours per week, less than 1,000 hours per year. There are no benefits associated with thus position. 
  • Students are required to work an entire academic year at the museum. The position involves a consistent weekday schedule and some weekend and evening availability.

Work Environment

  • Office environment, with accommodations for remote work as necessary.
  • Fast-paced, ever changing environment.
