Position Summary:

Graduate Assistants in the Center for Career and Life Planning (CCLP) support the delivery of a broad range of career-related services, programs, and resources for approximately 2,800 undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Liberal Arts and the Hamilton Holt School as well as alumni of each of these programs. Embodying Rollins Gateway—our signature approach to preparing students for global citizenship, responsible leadership, meaningful lives, and productive careers—this role will help students identify, connect, and maximize their interdisciplinary experiences to chart unique career pathways through Rollins and beyond.

The Event, Marketing and Employer Support Graduate Assistant will work primarily on event and marketing management, while also supporting overarching Career and Life Planning programs and career advising after receiving thorough training.

Primary Responsibilities

Event Management & Employer Connection Initiatives

  • Assist in the planning, promotion, and execution of career fairs, networking events, employer spotlights, employer-led workshops, and other career-related activities.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including setup, technology needs, catering, and registration processes.
  • Manage event calendars to ensure timely communication with participants and stakeholders.
  • Create, update, and distribute event marketing materials including flyers and email communications.
  • Serve as liaison between Career Services and employer partners, assisting in the coordination of employer visits, information sessions, and on-campus recruiting activities.
  • Attend events to capture pictures and videos to be used in marketing collateral.
  • Promote CCLP events through on-campus tabling.
  • Manage employer content in Handshake to include Employer Collections and external employer event approvals.
  • Evaluate and report on event outcomes to inform future planning.

Marketing Initiatives

  • Collaborate with Program Coordinator and Frueauff Marketing & Social Media Manager on creating and distributing marketing materials to include flyers and email communications.
  • Work together with Program Coordinator to create and manage communication marketing campaigns through social media, email, and other channels with the goal of promoting CCLP events, hot jobs/internships and other high-impact opportunities.
  • Design engaging promotional materials such as flyers, email communications, and digital content.
  • Manage social media platforms to include Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
  • Meet weekly with Associate Director of Employer & Alumni Connections, Program Coordinator and Frueauff Marketing & Social Media Manager to ensure cohesiveness and alignment to marketing plans.
  • Conduct monthly analysis of marketing campaigns and provide input to increase reach and engagement.
  • Research and help implement best practices that elevate the value of the CCLP to employer and community partners, promote recruitment opportunities to gain new employer partnerships, and increase student participation in CCLP events and career development opportunities.
  • Coordinate event logistics and implementation including drafting event plans, posting and managing events in all platforms (including Handshake, Get Involved, and MyRollins), and tracking participation and attendance.
  • Work alongside the Associate Director of Employer & Alumni Connections to develop and maintain relationships with employers recruiting at Rollins College.
  • Expand employer network by researching and initiating contact with new organizations offering potential job, internship, and experiential learning opportunities.

CCLP General

  • Participate in required ongoing training, including intensive training at the beginning of the semester followed by ongoing shadowing and training sessions
  • After thorough training, provide career development support through one-on-one career advising appointments and drop-in sessions to assist students and alumni in all stages of career development including major choice, career exploration, internship planning, networking, job search, and graduate school application
  • Critique resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, and personal statements for students and alumni applying for internships, jobs, graduate school admission, and scholarships
  • Lead outreach presentations and workshops on a variety of career-related topics
  • Support CCLP career readiness initiatives, event coordination, and management
  • Represent the Center for Career & Life Planning in orientations, tabling events, panels, etc.
  • Support Gateway programming, strategy, and implementation through cross-departmental collaboration, integration of Gateway language into CCLP programming, and help students identify and articulate their Gateway experiences
  • Provide front desk support

Position Information:

Anticipated Employment Dates: August 19, 2024 - May 31, 2025

Supervisor Name and Department: Jessica Wensel, Associate Director of Employer & Alumni Connections, Center for Career & Life Planning

Scheduled Hours: The Center for Career & Life Planning is open from Monday through Friday, 8:30 am--5:00 pm. Occasional evening and weekend assistance may be needed. The graduate assistant will be working 20 hours per week. The final schedule is determined based on availability and department needs. Weeks off: Fall Break (1), Thanksgiving (1 week), Winter Break (4 weeks, 12/13-01/09), Spring Break (1 week).

Work Environment: Office environment requiring sitting for extended periods of time, traveling across campus, and occasions bending/lifting/twisting.

Pay: The hourly pay rate is $15/hr. and there are no benefits associated with this position.

Qualifications and Skill Sets:

The Graduate Assistant serving in this position must demonstrate a strong work ethic, a high degree of initiative, dependability and personal accountability, adaptability, and the ability to work both independently and in teams. Additional skills and aptitudes include:

  • Interest in helping/serving others, with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills to include presentation and email communications
  • Experience in event organization and planning
  • Experience in creating marketing materials utilizing Canva
  • Experience in creating engaging social media content (particularly for Instagram and LinkedIn)
  • Comfortable with using and learning new technology
  • Sound knowledge of research and assessment skills
  • Strong organizational & project management skills
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills to include teamwork and collaboration
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality
  • Preference is given to students willing to work 4 days/week, 5 hours/day

Candidates interested in this role must be actively enrolled or incoming Rollins graduate students. Pending the hiring offer, new student employees (who have not worked at the college within the last two years) will need to complete new hire documents.
