Primary Job Responsibilities:

Upward Bound Program is a pre-collegiate program based at Rollins College that provides college-preparatory programs and assisting resources to 72 college-bound high school students from Orange County Public Schools District (Jones, Evans, Wekiva, and OakRidge. Our students are motivated learners from socioeconomic backgrounds considered statistically less likely to complete a four-year degree. They range from general level to honors to Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate.

The Rollins College Upward Bound Program is seeking highly motivated individuals who believe in the mission of the program. Individuals who are able to work with a diverse population, display dependable characteristics, and work well with others. The person selected for this position is responsible for working cooperatively with the Program Director and Coordinator to ensure an engaged program of academic excellence, diversity and leadership is being facilitated to participants.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with office and clerical duties such as copying, typing, calling and responding to program participants, community, and program/school partners.
  • Assisting Program Director, Assistant Director, and Coordinator with individual or group activities focused on promoting secondary school completion and enrollment in a post-secondary educational program.
  • Assisting with ideas and feedback in participants' college tours and events.
  • Assisting with taking pictures and documenting student activities for social media sites and program websites.
  • Assisting with creating promotional resources to advertise program events to participants and prospective students.
  • Participation in weekly staff meetings, staff development and commitment to continuous learning of program objectives.
  • Ability to work at least one Saturday a month for program tutoring sessions.
  • Assisting Program Coordinator in seeking donations in the local community for special events.

Anticipated Learning Outcomes:

  • Ability to understand the different components in event planning.
  • Ability to communicate and build rapport with at-risk youth.
  • Customer service skills as it pertains to working with parents and community members.
  • Leadership and communication skills for facilitating workshops and other activities for program participants and perspective students.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • High school graduate.
  • Must be 21 years of age and up.
  • Experience working with teenagers and economically disadvantaged students in a school setting.
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Posses a positive, proactive approach to working with teenagers on their research papers, essays, projects, and homework during summer.
  • Well organized, able to manage their time, and should have reliable transportation if they live off campus.
  • Flexible Schedule.

Level 2 Background Screening Requirement

As a condition of employment, the candidate must pass a Florida Level 2 Background Screening prior to their start date. The cost of the fingerprinting is the responsibility of the candidate. The cost is approximately $70.00+ and payment is collected when the appointment is scheduled.

The candidate cannot start working until all background screening results are returned and cleared or until they have received an approved exemption.

Additional Position Information:

  • Employment Dates: June 3 – July 17, 2025 (July 21-25 Summer Trip Voluntary)

  • Orientation/Training: June 5-6, 2025 (Schedule will vary)
    • Day 1 Training: 9-5pm
    • Day 2 Training: 9-5pm

  • Work Schedule: Program Assistants will work up to 20hrs Monday through Friday between the hours 8:00am.-8:00pm (Schedule will vary)

  • Compensation: Approximately $15.00 per hour. This is an Upward Bound grant funded position through the U.S. Department of Education and is contingent upon grant funding. There are no benefits associated with this position.

Upward Bound is a campus-based college-preparatory program assisting 72 college-bound high school students from Orange County. During the school year the program provides college-prep advancement instruction, guidance in preparing for college admission, tutorial services and academic advisement to further enhance the participants' academic development and preparation for post-secondary educational opportunities and curriculum advancement for the school year. Our students are motivated learners from socioeconomic backgrounds considered statistically less likely to complete a four-year degree. They range from general level to honors to Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate.
