Position Summary:

The Grounds and Landscape Services Team is seeking temporary Groundskeepers to join the team behind one of America’s most beautiful college campuses! The Grounds and Landscape Services Team strives to support the educational mission of the College while providing a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere to enhance the learning environment.

At certain times throughout the year, the Grounds and Landscape Services Team looks to hire temporary employees to provide additional support to the fulltime staff. We are continuously seeking groundskeeping applicants who are interested in temporary work with the College and this team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operating mowers and equipment in performing routine duties
  • Performing routine sprinkler maintenance in addition to preventive maintenance and minor repair of all groundskeeping equipment
  • Performing maintenance and caretaker work in mowing grass, cleaning grounds, emptying trash, edging, weeding, and maintaining flower beds and shrubs
  • Assisting in the application of fertilizers
  • Planting/transplanting landscape materials
  • Cleaning fountains, reflecting ponds, and statues
  • Lifting and carrying heavy objects and/or equipment as needed
  • May move supplies, equipment, and furniture
  • May assist other Facilities Services personnel in performance of routine and emergency tasks
  • Performing related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • High school education is required in order to read, write, and follow basic instructions
  • Minimum one year of job-related experience is preferred
  • Possess a valid Florida driver’s license and satisfactory MVR is preferred to operate college vehicles
  • Knowledge of practices and procedures used in grounds maintenance
  • Knowledge of small tools and equipment used and ability to make small repairs
  • Ability to read and understand label instructions on chemicals
  • Physical ability to handle, lift and/or carry heavy objects and equipment

Work Schedule:

Temporary Groundskeepers are scheduled to work Monday-Friday, 6:30am-2:30pm (7.5 hours/day; 37.5 hours/week), for a total of less than 1,000 hours per year. Scheduled hours per week will depend on availability and operational needs.

Hourly Pay:

The hourly pay rate is $10.00 and there are no benefits associated with this position.

Working Environment:

  • Front-facing customer service role on-campus
  • Work requires physical exertion and exposure to the weather
  • Overtime may be required as needed
  • Must be punctual and reliable; daily attendance is required
