Position Summary:

The Center for Leadership & Community Engagement (CLCE) at Rollins College is seeking a service-oriented Assistant Director to join their team! The Center for Leadership & Community Engagement (CLCE) provides learning opportunities that educate students for global citizenship and responsible leadership. The Assistant Director (AD) supports and advances the mission of CLCE and Rollins, inspiring action and cultivating positive social change through leadership development and community engagement. The Assistant Director will aid in the strategic planning and administration within the CLCE and provide creative vision and leadership for programs and initiatives for the campus community while promoting an inclusive and welcoming campus climate, student well-being, and leadership development. The Assistant Director reports to the Director for the Center for Leadership & Community Engagement and supervises a Graduate Assistant.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Create, support, and enhance student development and growth as it relates specifically to community engagement and leadership with a strong emphasis on civic engagement, inclusion, and social justice.
  • Execute, support, and inspire both day, evening and weekend programs including, but not limited to attending events/projects, student meetings, functions, programs, and courses across the curriculum.
  • Serve as an advocate for students and support the overall planning and development of a seamless curricular and co-curricular experience of students, with particular emphasis on high impact practices, student development, wellbeing, citizenship, multiculturalism, and community involvement through leadership education, experiential learning opportunities, student organization involvement and campus programming.
  • Advise, coordinate, and facilitate the Rollins Immersion Program: Citizens Take Action, which exposes students to critical, cultural, social, political, and structural issues in the community through weekend and weeklong civic and community engagement experiences throughout the academic year.
  • Create, plan, implement, collaborate, and assess annual programming and traditions, including: TarsTogether, Student Academic Achievement Awards, SummerSERVE, Service Days, and Fox Day.
  • Advise registered student organizations that focus on service or leadership (i.e. Immersion Planning Team, Emerging Leadership Institute, etc.), and provide guidance in all relevant programming and events.
  • Direct oversight and management of campus-wide personality inventories, facilitations, and leadership trainings such as StrengthsQuest, MBTI, etc.
  • Collaborate with students, faculty and staff in creating, organizing, and executing events that serve the needs of all Rollins constituents and the community.
  • Support and supervise para-professional and student staff that facilitate campus-wide leadership development initiatives including but not limited to:
    • Rhoda Newberry Reed Leadership Education grant
    • Summer Leadership Conferences
    • Annual Student Leadership Awards Banquet
    • Emerging Leadership Institute
  • Research, utilize, and facilitate experiences focused on leadership development models/frameworks and trends including but not limited to:
    • Emotionally Intelligent Leadership
    • Leadership Identity Development Model
    • Relational Leadership Model
    • Servant Leadership
    • Situational Leadership
    • Social Change Model of Leadership Development
    • StrengthsQuest
    • MBTI
    • Transformational Leadership
  • Establish and maintain connections with key stakeholders to advance the mission and goals of the Center for Leadership & Community Engagement.
  • Represent CLCE on campus committees and at campus and community functions.
  • Assess learning outcomes and program evaluation.
  • Provide support and guidance to community agencies/partners in Central Florida.
  • Assist in grant writing and research for multiple grant/foundation budgets.
  • Assist in the management of multiple budgets including both unrestricted and grant/foundation budgets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of the CLCE.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of related experience in alternative break programming, leadership development, program management, and community engagement specifically through the context of college student development in higher education is required.
  • Master’s Degree in student personnel, educational leadership, higher education, counseling, or a related field completed by June 30, 2021 is required.
  • Knowledge, skills and values related to leadership development, service-learning and community engagement specifically through the context of college student development in higher education.
  • Ability to effectively mentor students and advise student groups.
  • Understanding of small, private, residential liberal arts college.
  • Significant knowledge and research of student leadership identity models and theories.
  • Effective facilitation, communication, supervision, and program development skills.
  • Ability to analyze information and make judgment decisions.
  • Assessment methods using LEAP learning outcomes.
  • Strong self-motivated program development and event planning skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in communication, supervision, and facilitation.
  • Demonstrated ability to inclusively and proactively develop and sustain positive, collaborative, and collegial relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Knowledge and practice of multi-tasking, organization, and time management skills.
  • Knowledge, skill and proficiency in use of computer software programs such as Microsoft Office, database programs, Adobe Suite, etc.
  • Valid Florida driver license and comfort with driving and maintaining a 15-passenger bus. Must pass HR license inspection.

Work Environment:


  • Working in-person, on campus, in an office environment.
