Position Summary:

The Registrar and Financial Aid Offices are seeking a part-time (10-15 hours per week) Veterans Certification Specialist join their team. The Veterans Certification Specialist will perform a range of duties associated with certification and administration for Veterans Administration (VA) educational benefits in accordance with all applicable legal requirements and guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews applications and other information and certifies student enrollment status for VA benefits.
  • Determines appropriate VA educational program and eligibility and provides necessary forms.
  • Reviews completed forms for accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitors students' enrollment, academic progress and course completion to ensure compliance with VA requirements.
  • Tracks, updates and monitors VA student status and notify VA of any students not making progress.  Notify VA of course withdrawals and change of majors.
  • Monitors incoming payments made by the Department of Veterans Affairs on behalf of GI Bill® recipients; adjusts VA certifications determined by financial aid awards.
  • Provides list of VA benefit recipients to Student Account Services; verifies and initiates refunds to students for overpayments of tuition and fees.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of VA regulations, rules and policies regarding educational benefits eligibility and certification, VA State Approving Agency regulations and associated practices, processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other state and federal laws, rules, regulations and policies governing student admissions and financial aid.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of interviewing and advising students and applicants.



The Veterans Certification Specialist will work approximately 10-15 hours per week, for a total of less than 1,000 hours per year. Scheduled hours per week will depend on availability and operational needs.

  • Campus-based position working in an office environment.
  • Work requires visual strain, use of computer.
  • Must maintain a professional/business work environment.
