Position Summary:

The Rollins Wellness Center seeks, energetic, self-motivated graduate student who is able to develop, coordinate, facilitate, engaging ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug) prevention education presentations for student groups and individuals.

Anticipated Learning Outcomes: The goal of this assistantship to provide an experiential learning opportunity that is aligned with the educational program of study.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for several one-on-one services provided by the Wellness Center. These include educational interventions for students who are found responsible for alcohol, cannabis, nicotine or other substance violations and individual feedback sessions.
  • Facilitate ATOD Intervention Groups who are part of the campus conduct system. The educational intervention for students is a small group class that focuses on motivation enhancement, harm reduction techniques and personalized feedback. The graduate assistant will also co-facilitate ATOD groups as needed, including First Steps, Action Steps, Adult Children of Addicts.
  • Assist the Substance Misuse Coordinator and Health Promotions team in providing campus programs intended to educate students and on campus groups, about alcohol and other drug issues and influence perceptions, beliefs and behavior to reduce high risk drinking. Duties may include presentations for classrooms and student groups, assisting peer educators in planning and delivering educational programs and facilitating educational programs.
  • Function as a professional staff member by attending staff meetings, providing leadership to peer educators and striving to enhance the scope and quality of our services.
  • Receive weekly one on one supervisions and a performance evaluation will be conducted by the Substance Abuse Counselor at the end of each semester.
  • Build and maintain our substance use resource list for students in need of outside resources.
  • Establish community partners who specialize in substance use and treatment.
  • Develop in-person and virtual programming opportunities that provide prevention programming.

Minimum Qualifications and Skill Sets:


  • Pursuing a Master’s degree in a counseling, social work, mental health, psychology, marriage and family therapy or related field.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to working with both individual and groups in a counseling setting.
  • Demonstrate unconditional positive regard for students.
  • Possess strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office 365, Abode Sign, and WebEx.
Education Requirement:


Candidates interested in this role must be actively enrolled in a graduate degree seeking program (counseling, social work, mental health, psychology, marriage and family therapy or related field) in order to qualify for this position and must remain actively enrolled in a graduate degree seeking program for the duration of their employment in this position.

Position Information: 

Anticipated Employment Dates: January, 2023 - July 28, 2023

Work Schedule: The Graduate assistant is expected to maintain a 20 hours/week work schedule. Schedule will be determined by student's class schedule and department needs. Some evenings and weekends will be required.

Pay: The hourly pay rate is $15.00 and there are no benefits associated with this position.
