Job Summary:

The Transport Project Custodian will operate as part of the Transport Team whose primary responsibility is to support special event projects, special project work orders, in-house furniture reassignment and relief work outside of the normal custodial services for academic, administration, and residential buildings.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assisting in transport of surplus furniture, relocating in room furniture, books, equipment, etc.
  • Warehousing, storage and inventory of all event furniture.
  • Setting-up/Breaking-down special events; i.e., setting-up and cleaning tables, trash containers, set- up and rearranging furniture, etc.
  • Completing assigned EMS work orders and event requests.
  • Providing relief for other positions in custodial department as needed.

Qualifications & Education:


  • At least 6 months of job related experience.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain an Florida driver's license within 30 days of accepting the job, and acceptable MVR are required. Comfort with driving and maintaining a 15-passenger bus required.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow basic instructions in English.
  • Ability to read and understand label instructions on chemicals.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and working with hazardous materials
  • Knowledge of practices and procedures used in grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of small tools and equipment used and ability to make small repairs.
  • Ability to operate box truck, pallet jack and miscellaneous small equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions for diagrams and event set up.
  • Ability to perform a variety of heavier tasks in the care of buildings and equipment.
  • Demonstrates cross-cultural awareness and communication skills to maximize effective collaboration across diverse groups on-campus.
  • Physical role requiring heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, bending twisting, and kneeling.
  • Prolonged standing and walking to various areas around campus to access work areas.
  • Ability to handle, lift and/or carry heavy objects and equipment.
  • Ability to complete written paperwork regarding projects completed

  • Comply with all department policies, procedures and service delivery expectations.

Work Schedule:

The Transport Project Custodian is scheduled to work 7.5 hours/day, 37.5 hours per week. The schedule for this role is:

  • Monday - Friday, 7:00am to 3:00pm (with a 1 hour paid lunch)

As a condition of employment in this position, the incumbent will be subject to call in outside of regular hours in order to respond to emergencies, including the preparation and maintenance of College facilities, grounds, systems and services during inclement weather crises.

*Works overtime, split shifts, special events and weekends may be required as needed.

Work Environment:

  • Works on-campus at multiple work sites including indoors and outdoors.
  • Work requires physical exertion and exposure to both hot and cold weather.
  • Physical ability to handle, lift and/or carry heavy objects and equipment.
  • Must be punctual and reliable; daily attendance is required.
